Your Hosts… Peggy, Lee & Family

Peggy Cloy moved to Southwest Colorado in 1993 after living and working as an artist in Seattle, Washington for 20 years. She purchased 40 acres of woods, streams, a lake with largemouth bass and a view of the La Plata mountains. Structures included three log cabins and an assortment of smaller barns and buildings – all of which needed extensive remodeling.

Peggy and Lee made us feel at home the moment we arrived.”
–Shirley and Arnold, Robinson, TX

In 2000, Peggy married Lee Cloy, a friend from Seattle. Lee is an expert in property and building management, a Tai Chi Practitioner, and a true visionary and problem solver. His arrival has made Willowtail Springs blossom and become even more lush.

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by Beau Jangles. If you take a hike on the property, chances are good he will offer to be your friendly tagalong.

“Thank you for sharing your piece of Eden. We appreciated the extra time you took to acquaint us with this wonderful area.”
–Susan and Rob, North Carolina

Over the last two decades stewardship of the land, water, air and wildlife has steadily increased. From 2001-2004 Lee and Peggy saved 7,800 pinion, cedar and ponderosa trees from the infestation of the Ips bark beetle. Together, they have also released numerous raptors for the Colorado Division of Wildlife and added 20 more acres of land to the original property.

There are always exciting additions happening at Willowtail. One huge addition, in January, 2012, our separate nonprofit organization, Willowtail Springs Nature Preserve and Education Center was officially designated a 501c3 by the IRS. This is a totally separate organization from Willowtail Springs B&B Cabins. Through this organization we are providing funded residency stays for the pursuit of the arts and sciences.

Our guest and retreat stays are thriving and growing at our long established business of Willowtail Springs B&B Cabins. However, this additional organization provides funded stays for emerging artists and scientists who could not stay otherwise. Residencies are awarded through the board for this organization, www.wtsnpec.org. We are thrilled with the community support we have been given for this project. It is exceeding our expectations.”

The magical environment at Willowtail Springs offers a calming and inspiring lifestyle for Peggy and Lee which influences their life and work. Together, they maintain Art and Tai Chi studios. The Working Studio and Treehouse Gallery are also on the property where guests can see some of Peggy’s work or take an art or Tai Chi lesson. There is also a growing list of Workshops/Retreats which are very popular and being offered, both for guests staying at Willowtail Springs and people attending just for the day.

Peggy’s art and history as an artist can viewed in more detail at peggycloy.com.
